Brian Getnick is a Los Angeles based artist who creates sculpture, costumes and set pieces for performances that slalom between political satire and collective ritual. Getnick fabricates precarious monuments, cartoonish effigies, and totemic statuary anticipating their transformation at the hands of the performers he collaborates with. Mirroring this process is a critical view he takes towards stable representations of an “antagonistic other”. Instead, his work is a confrontation with his own psyche and by extension, the shared values, myths and power struggles of a left leaning public.
