LIGHT WORK

Inspired by the cathedrals of the natural world: the mountains, the giant trees, the astonishing rock formations I have explored techniques that are both considered and spontaneous to compose non-repeatable gestures, much in the same way the world is sculpted by the wind, time, and water.
For most of my career as a sculptor, I have carved Styrofoam in a choreographed dance with an electrically heated wire and manipulated hot wax with water in an effort to create compelling objects.
As the setting sun or morning sunrise reveals the form and texture of our landscapes, my current work uses projected and programmable colored lights to expose subtleties in my created sculptures and to provide for the audience an experiential event.
“Paint The World” my most recent project has come full circle. I have taken the lights to nature to explore what this will reveal. The results and process have been documented through photography and video.
Often times with the frenetic pace of daily life the specifics of the natural environment are overlooked. Through my art process I want to offer an expanded vision of the way we can observe the world around us.
