RELIQUARIES AND RELICS FOR THE HORSESHOE CRAB
6 minute stream

To confront the current pandemic, global vaccine production will soon increase dramatically. The blood of horseshoe crabs is used as a sterilizing compound in medical vaccine production. Will big pharma continue to bleed the Horseshoe Crab’s precious limulus amebocyte lysate cells to use in the standard test for sterility for needles and IVs? Or will they use the humane “factor C” test, saving tens of thousands of Horseshoe crabs and Redknot birds that feed and rely on their eggs during their migration to the Arctic. Eberly presents his sculptures and paintings as reliquaries and memorial relics to the living fossil in an altar-like configuration as a prayer of hope that Horseshoe crabs do not face extinction to save human lives.
